Here’s a 3-day itinerary for a trip from Hanoi to Bac Ha, then on to Lao Chai, Ta Van homestay, Cat Cat, and Sin Chai villages. This trip combines cultural experiences in Bac Ha with trekking through the scenic landscapes and traditional villages around Sapa.
Day 1: Hanoi to Bac Ha Market

1:30 PM – Visit Bac Ha Market
• If it’s a Sunday, explore the bustling Bac Ha Market. It’s a perfect opportunity to see locals in colorful ethnic clothing, selling everything from handmade textiles to livestock, fresh produce, and traditional medicines. • Take some time to interact with the locals and learn about their culture.
3:00 PM – Visit Ban Pho Village
• After visiting the market, head to Ban Pho Village, famous for its production of corn wine and the beautiful traditional houses of the Flower Hmong people. • You can visit a local house and observe the corn wine-making process, or explore the beautiful terraced fields and tranquil atmosphere of the village.
5:00 PM – Overnight in Bac Ha
• Return to Bac Ha town and check into your accommodation. Enjoy a peaceful evening at leisure, or stroll around Bac Ha to experience the quiet countryside atmosphere.
Day 2: Bac Ha – Lao Chai & Ta Van Villages Homestay
7:30 AM – Depart Bac Ha for Sapa
• After breakfast, head from Bac Ha to Sapa, which is about 2.5-3 hours by car.
10:30 AM – Arrive in Sapa & Start Trek to Lao Chai Village
• Upon arrival in Sapa, begin your trek to Lao Chai Village, a Black Hmong village nestled in the Muong Hoa Valley. • The trek offers spectacular views of terraced rice fields, mountains, and traditional houses. • Spend time interacting with local Hmong families and learning about their traditional handicrafts and daily life.
12:30 PM – Lunch in Lao Chai

1:30 PM – Trek to Ta Van Village
• Continue your trek to Ta Van Village, home to the Giay ethnic minority. • This section of the trek takes you deeper into the valley, crossing bamboo forests, small rivers, and lush green terraced fields. • Explore the village and meet the Giay people, who are known for their farming skills and unique cultural traditions.
4:00 PM – Homestay Experience in Ta Van
• Arrive at your homestay in Ta Van for the evening. This is a chance to experience the daily life of the local people, enjoy a home-cooked meal, and immerse yourself in the tranquil countryside. • After dinner, you can relax and socialize with your host family or take an evening stroll around the village.
Day 3: Ta Van – Cat Cat – Sin Chai – Return to Hanoi
7:30 AM – Breakfast at the Homestay
• Wake up to the peaceful sounds of the village and enjoy breakfast with your host family.
8:30 AM – Trek to Cat Cat Village
• After breakfast, trek back toward Sapa and visit Cat Cat Village, a Black Hmong village located at the foot of the Muong Hoa Valley. • Cat Cat is one of the most accessible villages from Sapa town and is known for its traditional Hmong houses, waterwheels, and the Cat Cat Waterfall. • Spend time walking around the village and learning about Hmong culture, such as traditional weaving and dyeing techniques.
10:30 AM – Trek to Sin Chai Village
• From Cat Cat, continue trekking to Sin Chai Village, a quieter, less touristy village located further into the valley. • The village is surrounded by beautiful terraced fields and offers a more authentic view of traditional Hmong life. You can interact with locals and see their daily activities. • The trek provides a stunning view of the surrounding mountains, including Mount Fansipan, the highest peak in Indochina.
12:30 PM – Return to Sapa for Lunch
• After your trek, return to Sapa town for lunch. Enjoy a hearty meal at a local restaurant in Sapa before preparing for your return journey to Hanoi.
2:30 PM – Free Time in Sapa
• After lunch, spend some free time exploring Sapa town, visiting the Sapa Market, or enjoying a coffee at one of the town’s cafes. • You can also explore Sapa Church or walk around Sapa Lake.
3:30 PM – Depart for Hanoi
• Take a bus or private car back to Hanoi (around 5-6 hours) or take the train from Lao Cai Station if you prefer an overnight option.
9:00 PM – Arrive in Hanoi
• Arrive back in Hanoi, concluding your 3-day adventure.
